Custom Oil Portrait Commission
A timeless oil painting, created from your photographs and made uniquely for you.
Turn a meaningful photograph, memory or person into an original hand-painted oil portrait.
Each portrait is individually painted by NeeseDraws using traditional oil painting techniques, with careful attention to likeness, expression, colour, atmosphere and detail.
Whether you're commissioning a portrait of a loved one, a family member, a beloved pet, a special occasion or a personal keepsake, the finished painting is created specifically for you — there are no printed photographs, digital filters or mass-produced reproductions involved.
🎨 A Portrait Made for You
Your portrait can be created in colour or monochrome, depending on the look you prefer.
I can also work from multiple photographs where necessary. This can be particularly useful when you want to:
- bring several people together into one portrait;
- use a better photograph for one person's face and another for their clothing or pose;
- recreate a meaningful moment that wasn't captured in a single photograph; or
- make carefully considered changes to the original reference.
If you have a specific idea in mind, please contact me before ordering so we can discuss what is possible.
🖌️ Traditional Oil Painting
Your portrait is genuinely hand-painted in oils on canvas.
I work directly with traditional painting materials to create an original physical artwork rather than applying digital effects to a photograph.
The painting is built by hand, layer by layer, allowing the final piece to retain the character and depth of an original painting.
For those who appreciate the difference between a reproduction and an original artwork, the process itself is an important part of what makes your portrait special.
🖼️ Your Finished Artwork
Depending on the size selected, your painting will be supplied appropriately prepared for display.
Where applicable, larger paintings may need to be carefully packaged and transported differently from smaller canvases.
The exact presentation and delivery arrangements will be confirmed for your selected size.
If you are looking for a particular framing option, please contact me before ordering to discuss what may be available.
📷 Choosing Your Reference Photograph
The quality of your reference photographs has a significant impact on the final painting.
For the best results, please provide photographs that are:
- clear and reasonably high resolution;
- well lit;
- not excessively blurred;
- showing the subject's features clearly; and
- suitable for the composition you have requested.
I can sometimes work successfully from older or lower-quality photographs, but additional artistic work may be required to reconstruct unclear details.
If you're unsure whether your photograph is suitable, please send it to me before ordering and I'll be happy to take a look.
✨ The Commission Process
1. Discuss Your Portrait
Before ordering, you're welcome to contact me with your photographs and ideas.
We'll discuss the composition, number of subjects, preferred style, colour or monochrome treatment, size and any other important requirements.
2. Place Your Order
Once the project has been agreed, select the appropriate commission option and complete your order.
You'll then provide the final reference photographs and information required for the painting.
3. Creating Your Painting
I'll begin developing your portrait using the agreed references and brief.
Because this is an original hand-painted artwork, the painting is created individually rather than produced from a fixed template.
4. Progress & Approval
Where your selected commission option includes progress updates or an approval stage, I'll provide the relevant preview during the process.
The exact number and timing of revisions or approvals is determined by the commission option selected.
5. Completion & Dispatch
Once your painting is complete, it will be carefully prepared and securely packaged for delivery.
All commission artwork is sent using tracked delivery.
You'll receive the relevant tracking information once your order has been dispatched.
💛 A Meaningful Gift
A custom oil portrait can be a particularly meaningful gift for:
- birthdays;
- anniversaries;
- weddings;
- family milestones;
- memorials and treasured memories;
- housewarming gifts;
- Christmas;
- or simply as a way of celebrating someone important to you.
Unlike a photograph that exists on a screen, an original painting becomes a physical piece of artwork that can be lived with, displayed and passed down.
It is a portrait of a person — but also a handmade object with its own history and story.
📜 Certificate of Authenticity
Original paintings are signed by NeeseDraws.
Where applicable to the selected artwork, a Certificate of Authenticity can also be provided to document the artwork as an original piece created by the artist.
Important Information
Original Artwork
This commission is for an original physical oil painting unless otherwise stated.
The completed artwork is individually created for you and is not a printed photograph or digitally altered image.
Reference Photographs
You are responsible for ensuring that you have the appropriate permission to provide photographs for use as references.
If your reference photograph was created by another photographer or artist and you intend to reproduce their work substantially, please make sure you have the necessary rights or permission.
Artistic Interpretation
A commissioned painting is an artistic interpretation of your reference material.
While I aim to create a recognisable and carefully considered portrait, a painting is not intended to function as an exact photographic reproduction.
Lighting, colour, texture, brushwork and other artistic elements may differ from the original photograph.
Changes & Revisions
Any revisions included with your commission are limited to the allowance specified in the relevant commission option.
Requests for substantial changes after an agreed stage, or changes that require significant additional work, may incur an additional charge or may not be possible depending on the stage of the painting.
Processing Time
The processing timeframe for your commission is stated in the relevant commission option.
Please note that this refers to the time required to create and complete your artwork. It does not constitute a guaranteed delivery date.
All commission artwork is dispatched using tracked delivery. Once the parcel has been handed to the delivery service, delivery times are outside my control.
